The Basics of Freshwater Fish
Fish or other aquatic creatures are the
focal point of your aquarium, and the species in your tank will vary
according to your personal preference. Check to make sure that all the
creatures in your tank are compatible – you don’t want any small fish disappearing.
Freshwater fish tanks are usually made
from glass or clear plastic, and are available in a massive variety of shapes
and sizes. They can be custom made to suit your spatial requirements.
Heating may be required, depending on the types of fish in your aquarium. See our species pages for more information on which fish have special temperature needs.
Filtration comes in many forms mechanical, chemical and most important of all biological.
The mainpurpose of your filter is to detoxify the toxic wastes from your fish and organic matter/waste that accumulate in your tank, mainly ammonia.

Food varies based on the species of
fish. Many fish can eat dried food,
or ‘fish flakes,’ but some species have special requirements, such as live food.
Ask our staff about which food to use to keep your fish in top
condition.
Ornamentation and accessories just for show; your fish need places to hide, play and sleep. We stock everything from aquatic plants to novelty castles: mix and match to create your
own personal style.
Aquarium lighting - although not essential - can improve the appearance of your aquarium. If your room lighting is insufficient, in-tank
lighting can be used to increase visibility or create a funky atmosphere.
